Specs Announced for New 3 Series Wagon

For a few months now, we've known that there would be a wagon version of the critically-acclaimed 3 Series coming to the U.S., but what we haven't known all this time is, like, anything else about the car other than it's a 3 Series Wagon.  Well, we here at Center BMW are happy to announce that we've finally been given some information about the vehicle's powertrain and transmission options, and now seems like as good a time as any to share them with our readers.

For starters, the Wagon will get the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that appears in the standard 2012 BMW 328i sedan.  That's not a big shocker, but the 240 hp and 255 lb-ft of torque produced by this engine is certainly more than respectable, and we're glad to see it return in the 3 Series wagon.

As far as transmissions are concerned, there will definitely be an 8-speed automatic available with optional steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.  We don't know, however, about the 6-speed manual transmission offering yet, or whether a diesel engine will eventually be made available, but the 8-speed auto is a good place to start.

What we also know for sure is that the this wagon will offer an ECO PRO mode, which alerts drivers to how efficiently they're using the vehicle and alters the performance of the car a little to ensure maximum fuel economy.

When it comes to the 2012 BMW 3 Series, Santa Monica drivers have always been happy with the 328i sedan, but we're excited to see how the new wagon fares, as well.
